Windermere – One of Gemma’s Top 5 Places to live in the Lake District

The Lake District is famous for its beautiful mountains, idyllic lakes, historic villages, Romantic poets and world heritage status.

But which are the best places to live, for families, outdoors enthusiasts, culture lovers, hidden gems, value for money?

Gemma Dawe specializes in finding dream homes in the Lake District, from family houses to multi-million-pound luxury properties. She runs Lake District Relocation Ltd and lives in the Lakes too.

“The Lake District is highly sought after but it has more property and lifestyle options than many people realise,” says Gemma. “There are wonderful homes for many different requirements, if you know where to look. And I do! I love using my local knowledge to help people find their perfect Lakeland home, often where they didn’t expect it.”

Windermere scores for its beauty, lively atmosphere and convenience.

Gemma says: “There is a fantastic café culture in Windermere, it is a great place for people-watching.

“There’s a good community and plenty to do. You can go wild swimming and there are several gyms and swimming pools in the area.”

“There is good access for active families to get to the mountains or the lake. And you can easily go for greener walks or cycle rides from your door.”

Windermere has good transport links, with a train station and a main bus route and Gemma also points to good local public and private schools.

The village attracts visitors, but Gemma says it is less busy and has less of a tourist vibe compared with other places in the central Lakes.

“If you have got young kids, Windermere is a great place to live, there are multiple tourist attractions in the area that will keep young kids occupied.”
